CHARLES CORMIER (1857-1915)


Charles Cormier was born and baptized on June 24, 1857 at Ile de la Madeleine, Quebec, Canada.

His parents were Nazaire and Marie Lapierre.




He married Celina Guilmette on January 8, 1884 at Mission N.D., Natashquan, Canada*


He immigrated to Woonsocket, RI in 1898.  He would live there for 16 years.


Their children included:

Florida, was born March 16, 1885 in Labrador, Canada.  She married Joseph Aubin.  At one time they lived in Attawaugan, CT.  They had a daughter Aurore, who married Lucien Duquette and 4 sons Raymond,of Hartford, CT; Wilfrid, Arthur and Rosaire of Woonsocket . They then moved to 44 Asylum St. in Woonsocket sometime around 1920. 





She died on January 12, 1968.  Joseph died in September of 1955.  Both are buried in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, MA.  This picture shows Joe (top) with wife Florida (front right) with son Rosaire and his wife.  With them are wife of Roland, Rita, and Roland.  Sitting with Florida is her sister Marie-Anne.

Marie, who was born on July 5, 1890 in St. Theophile de Beauce, Quebec, Canada and baptized Marie Sophronie at St. Come de Kennebec, Quebec.  She married William Berube on May 12, 1913. They had four children: Lionel, Bernadette, Jeannette and Aurore. She died on April 4, 1983 in Woonsocket, RI.

St. Theophile, Beauce, P.Q.

Apoline, Marie Berube, Celina and Florida.
Apoline, was born on Feb. 25, 1892 in St. Theophile, Quebec, Canada.*  She married Arthur Baillargeon on Feb. 9,1914 in RI.  They had a son Roland. She lived most of her life in Woonsocket, RI. She died on March 1, 1978.  Bearers at the funeral were: Ernest Carriere, Paul Duquette, Albert Menard, David Marchand, Alfred Staples and Normand Charest.  She was buried in St. Charles Cemetery , Blackstone, MA.

Elie Alphonse was born May 8, 1894 in Quebec.  He was baptized on the 13th.His uncle, Jean was his godfather.



Felix, Isola and daughter, 1938
Felix was baptized as Joseph Philias.  He was born March 5, 1887 in Natashquan, Quebec. He emigrated to the US the summer of 1899 via rail. He married Isola on 29 May 1911 in Woonsocket, RI. At one time they lived in Derby, Connecticut.  They had a least one daughter, Rita Margaret, who was born 17 Jan 1924 in Hartford, CT.   He is thought to have died in CT.

Eulalie was born on January 10, 1896 in Ile de la Madeliene, Bassin, Quebec.*  Little is known of this sister.  She seems to have died at a young age.







A young Marie-Anne
Marie-Ann was born on March 9, 1898 in Iles de la Madeleine, Bassin, Quebec.  She married Helidore Aubin on July 20, 1920 at Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil.  He died on March 27, 1952.  They lived in Hartford, CT.  They had a least two children; a girl, Rita, and a boy, Roland.





Antoine, who was known as Antonio Jack, was born on January 26, 1901 on Pond St., Woonsocket, RI.  He moved to Hartford CT in 1926.  He died on Nov.19.1962 and is buried at Soldiers Field in Wilson, CT.


 

Joseph, born in Woonsocket, RI, married Malvina Turcotte.  At one time they lived at 1739 Broad St., Hartford, CT.  He worked for Superior Spring in Hartford for over 50 years.  He died on Dec. 22, 1996 in West Hartford, CT.




Aurore Marie Rose, who was born on May 12, 1906 in Woonsocket, RI.*  She married Lionel Lussier and lived in West Hartford, CT.

This picture shows the wedding of Aurore with Lionel Lussier some time around 1926. The attendants included Joseph Cormier and Aurore (Aubin) Duquette.  The flower girl was Jeannette Berube.

They had two daughters; Betty D, who married Theodore R. Johnson and died on May 27, 1999; and Alice, who married Joseph Milluzzo.  She also had a son.

Aurore died on December, 5, 2005 in CT. at the age of 99.



There were also twins, Yvonne and Paul who were born on Jan. 17, 1908.* They apparently died young.  Memere Berube tells the story of these two. (coming soon: a recording of Memere Berube telling their story.)

In his life Charles Cormier was a lumberjack, general laborer, fisherman, carpenter, did maintenance on railroads and was a Teamster.

Celina died in Woonsocket, RI on Dec. 27, 1946 at 80 years of age.

ALFRED BERUBE (1846 - 1912)


Alfred Berube was born on October 8, 1846.  He was baptized by a missionary priest three days later at St. Joseph Church in Carleton, Quebec, Canada.*

He married Emilie Ferland on Oct. 10, 1871 in Maria, Bonaventure Co., Quebec, Canada.Her parents were Jean Baptiste and Euphemie Francoeur dit Claire. 


  

In 1874, they had their first child, Emilie, 
who was born on Oct. 31, in Bathhurst, New Brunswick. She married Frederick Pariseau on July 11, 1905 at St. Louis Church in Woonsocket.  They had 7 children: Bernice, Marie-Alice, Roland Emile, (b. June 21, 1912, Woonsocket , RI., d. February 18, 1996, Anaheim, CA.) Lionel, Therese, Alfred and Bernadette. [Frederick was a widower. His first wife was Delima Lefebvre.  She died in childbirth for their 6th child together. One daughter, Delia, returned to live with Frederick and his new wife.] 
At one time Emilie lived at 106 Hebert Ave.  She died at the home of her daughter, (Bernice) Mrs. Maxime Peloquin of 649 Elm St., Woonsocket, RI. on June 23, 1953. She was 78 years old and is buried in Precious Blood Cemetery, Blackstone, MA.*

Theophile and Marguerite Mercier
Their next child, Marguerite (Maggie) J. was born November 17, 1876 in New Brunswick, Canada.  She married Theophile Mercier in Woonsocket, RI on July 20, 1909.
He was born on September 17, 1874 in Chatham, NB.  He died on November 28, 1964. 
They lived in Manchester, NH and had 6 children, 2 boys (Marcel and Adrien) and 4 girls (Mrs.Godfroid Deliste, Mrs. Henry Lussier, Blanche and Marie Anne).  Marguerite died on March 13, 1940 at age 63.

Charles Alfred, born on June 30, 1878 in Chatham, New Brunswick.  He taught in a Woonsocket boarding school and later became a scholar and priest with the Assumption Fathers.  He did his novitiate at Essarts, France: 1937-38, his perpetual vows at Verargues on Dec. 8, 1942 and was ordained a priest on April 24, 1943.  Story has it that he was imprisoned in the Roman catacombs at some point.  He was a professor in Verargues, France and in Worcester, MA.  He died in Worcester on August 14, 1962 at the age of 84

Virginie in the 1920's.
Virginie was born in 1881 in Chatam, New Brunswick. In 1928, she was living with her widowed mother and sister Elizabeth aat 48 Hamlet Ave, Woonsocket, RI. She married Adolphe Vanvooren. She died on May 14, 1952 in North Smithfield, RI.  Adolphe was born in 1873 and died in 1935.

Marie-Anne
Jean B. Patenaude
Marie-Anne (Annie) was born May 13, 1882 . She married Jean B. Patenaude in 1910.  He was born in December 18, 1885 in Fall River, MA. and died on October 15, 1947 in Woonsocket, RI.  They had three sons; Eugene, Emile and Armand, and a daughter Therese, who became Sister Vivian R.J.M.  
Marie-Anne died on December 10, 1963.



William was born on June 21, 1885 in Dalhousie, Quebec or Restigouch, New Brunswick.  He married Marie Cormier on May 12, 1913, in Woonsocket, RI.  He and Marie had 4 children: Lionel, Bernadette, Jeannette and Aurore.  He died on January 23,1938 in Woonsocket, RI.  He is buried in Precious Blood Cemetery.

Lydia was born in 1887. At the age of 21 she left Woonsocket to become Soeur Marie-Emilie of the Franciscan Order of Mary, Quebec. On August 12, 1913 she took her final vows at the Convent of Bale in St. Paul, Quebec.* At one time she lived in St. John's Convent, Marquette, Mich. where she was a teacher. She also worked in Worchester, MA. She died at the Mother House in Baie St-Paul, Quebec on July 19, 1956.  She was 69 years old.*






Bernadette was born Nov. 8, 1888 in Campbellton, Restigouche, New Brunswick.  She became Soeur Marie-Alfred of the Franciscan Order of Mary, Quebec.  She lived at Baie St.Paul, Quebec, Canada.



The Berube family immigrated to Salem, MA in 1890 and later moved to Fall River. They were living there in 1900.  Finally they came to stay in Woonsocket, RI. in 1904.




Elizabeth was born on July 5, 1892 in Woonsocket, RI.*
She was a bookkeeper at the former Slatersville Finishing Co. In 1928 she was sharing an apartment with her widowed mother and her sister Virginia. She also worked as a domestic at the rectory of St. Edward's Church in Pawtucket, RI for 30 years. She died April 7, 1972 in Woonsocket.*

Therese was born on April 1, 1894.  She became Soeur Ives des Anges of the Franciscan Order of Mary, Worcester, MA. For a time she lived in Ste. Anne de Beaupre, Quebec.  She died at the Congregation of the Little Sisters of Mary, Quebec at the age of 85 in March of 1980.  She had been a nun for 60 years.*




 
Alice Marie was born on April 13, 1896 in Fall River, MA.
She was a nun for a few years. 





Later she married J. Arthur Eugene Rouleau on Sept. 26, 1931 in Woonsocket, RI. At the time she was living at 812 Social St. and he lived at 144 Crawford St. Her brother, William Berube was a witness at the wedding.*  Alice was a nurse and elementary school teacher.  She died in December of 1995 in Woonsocket, RI.

Another child called Berenice was born on an unknown date.  She became Soeur Ives de la Nativite.

He died on April 15, 1912 at 113 Cumberland St. in Woonsocket, RI.  He was 66 years old. His funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Ann's Church. The bearers were: Israel Berube of Boston, Henry Trudeau, Joseph Ferland and Frederic Pariseau.*



Emilie died at l'Hospice St-Antoine in North Smithfield, RI on Dec. 25, 1929.*

Both are buried in Precious Blood Cemetery.
