NAZAIRE CORMIER
(1830 - 1925)
Nazaire was born in an Acadian family on October 10, 1830 at Havre-Aubert, Isle de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. He was baptized at Notre Dame de la Visitation Church on October 10. Four days before, his future wife Marie Lapierre had been baptized in the same church.Their names followed each other in the church record.
Nazaire's parents were Jean Nicholas Cormier and Esther Chiasson. His godfather was Fermin Cormier and his godmother was Pelagie Chiasson.



He grew up to become a fisherman in Iles de la Madeleine, Quebec.

Nazaire married Marie Lapierre in Iles de la Madeleine, Bassin, Quebec on January 9, 1855.* 

Their first child Jean was born on November 8, 1855 and baptized at Iles de la Madeleine, Quebec. Jean married Celina Vigneault on January 9, 1882 in Natashquan, Quebec at the church of the Immaculate Conception.*  She died on May 23, 1900. Jean died in St. Theophile on September 13, 1906.* They had 9 children: Cleophas, (b.Nov. 1882, d. March 23, 1958); Marie Amanda, (b. Mar., 1885, d. Nov. 20, 1886); Theophane, (b. Mar. 28, 1887, Sept. 10, 1944); Marie Eleonore Lidia, ( b. Jan. 26, 1889); J. Wilfred Claude, (b. Sept. 24, 1890); Joseph Cyrille, (b. April 23, 1892, m. Aug. 18, 1914 to Bruno Cedras in Woonsocket, RI at St. Anne's Church);  Marie Elmire P. (b. March 9 , 1894); Joseph Hilaire, (b. Nov. 3, 1895); Marie Delphine, (b. June 9, 1898, b. Dec. 21, 1899).  All of this events took place in St. Theophile, Quebec.

Charles was born in the same place on June 24, 1857.* He married Celina Guilmette on January 8, 1881 at Mission Notre Dame, Natashquan, Quebec.  He died February 27, 1915 in Woonsocket, RI.
  
Francois was born on October 14, 1860 at Havre Aubert, Isle-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec.  He was baptized on October 31.*   He married Suzanne Boudreau (b. April 12, 1868, d. May 1923) on January 12, 1886 at Notre-Dame Parish, Natashquan, Saguenay County, Quebec.*  Their children included: Benoit (b. Aug. 7, 1888, d. Sept. 4, 1888 , Liniere, Beauce County, Quebec); Louis Jean (b. June 23, 1891, d. January 16, 1892, Liniere, Beauce County).  They lost a third son who was born and died on April 23, 1894.  During this time they lived in St. Theophile, Quebec where they were living for the 1891 censusJoseph Nelson was born on February 13, 1898 in Woonsocket RI. Rosanna was born July 9, 1905 in Woonsocket, RI. He died at Hospice St. Antoine in Woonsocket on May 16, 1943.

Genevieve was born February 1, 1863 in Natashquan, Quebec.*  There she married Hyppolite Vigneault on November 28, 1882.  They had 6 children: Albertine ( b. 1886, d. April 2, 1907); Joseph Ludger (b. Feb. 25, 1888, d. July 26, 1888); Romeo, ( b. Jan., 1889, d. Sept. 24, 1972); Joseph Arthur, (b. Sept. 22, 1891, d. April 4, 1893); and two other sons. Hyppolite died Aug, 27, 1937. She died March 9, 1944 in St. Theophile, Canada.

Marie-Anne was born May 5, 1868 in Natashquan, Quebec.She married Paul Vigneault on Nov. 25, 1889 in St. Come, Beauce, Quebec.  They had 8 children including: Theophile, (b. Sept. 11, 1892, d. Dec. 7, 1957); Elie, (b. Sept. 7, 1895, d. Feb. 21, 1897); Alphonse Claude, (b. Dec. 5, 1898); Marie Pauline, (b. July 24, 1902, d. April 18, 1903); Marie Aline, (b. Aug. 22, 1905); Ephrem, (b. Dec. 3, 1909, d. Feb. 7, 1971). All this births and deaths are in St. Theophile. Paul died on Jan. 5, 1930 and Marie-Anne died November 12, 1959 in St. Theophile.


Honore, called Nere, was born sometime around 1870.  He married Henriette Vigneault on May 30, 1905 at St. Theophile Church.* Together they had 3 daughters and two sons: J. Charles Maurice (b. April 7, 1906, d. Sept. 5, 1906), Anna Marie Angeline (b. Aug. 17, 1908), Joseph Jean (b. March 25, 1910, d. April 30, 1913) and two other daughters. (He was the godfather of Marie Cormier Berube.)


He died on August 23, 1942 in St. Theophile, Canada.  Henriette died on January 4, 1960 in the same town.

And Celestine was born sometime around 1871.

[The 1881 Census of Canada has Nazaire and Marie (both age 50) living with their children: Jean (24),Charles (22), Francois (20), Genevieve (18), Marie-Anne (13), Nere (10), and Celestine (9). Nazaire and his three oldest sons were fishermen. In the 1891 Census, Nazaire and Maire a listed as 61, living with Celestine (19) and Nere (20).  His son Charles (38), his wife Celina and their children; Florida (6) Philias(Felix) (4) and Marie (11months) are living with them.  Next door lives Charles' brother Jean (35) with his four sons; Cleophase (8),Theophile (3), Lidio (2) and Wilfred (6 months).]

Marie, Nazaire's wife died on April 8, 1894 in St. Theophile.*

Celestine, married Honore "Henry" Cote on May 2, 1898 at St. Theophile Church.  They had two children: Marie Zenaide, (b. Mar. 9, 1899) and Marie Rose Eva, ( b. April 29, 1910, d. Aug. 8, 1910). Henry died on April 2, 1928. After his death, she married Eeloi Vigneault on December 26, 1929 at St. Theophile, Quebec.  She died November 22, 1964 in St. Theophile.


Nazaire died at the age of 94 on August 6, 1925 in St. Theophile, Beauce, Quebec, Canada.*
