JEANNETTE VIRGINIA BERUBE (1918- 2009)


Jeannette Virginia Berube was born on November 14, 1918 at 56 Social St., Woonsocket, RI.*

In 1938 she entered the convent of the Sisters of the Presentation, a teaching order based in Canada.  She stayed in the convent for more than 6 years.  She taught school in Maine and in Canada.

Returning to Woonsocket, she worked at Riverside Worsted Co. at 84 Fairmount Street.  A year or so after leaving the convent Jeannette married   Ernest Albert Menard on December 29, 1945 at St. Ann's Church, Woonsocket, RI.  Attending them were Raymond Duquette and Alpherie Giguere.

Jeannette died at age 92 on November 20, 2009 at St. Antoine Residence.

CELINA GUILLEMETTE (1866-1946)

Celina was born December 15, 1866 in l'Ile Verte, Labrador, Canada. Her parents were Adrien Guillemette and Sophronie Simard. 
 
According to Memere Berube, Celina's mother died in childbirth. She was raised by local Native Americans until she was old enough to go to school. She would brag that she would walk barefoot in the snow and never got ill.
Celina loved to wear jewelry and it is said that even on her deathbed at l'Hospice St. Antoine she was wearing lots of jewelry.

CHARLES GIGUERE (1881-1957)

Charles Giguere was born on January 28, 1881.  Some records say he was born in Georgiaville, RI, others in St. Marcel, Richelieu, Canada.

His parents were Francois and Mathilde Salvas.

He married Georgianna Lamothe on February 12, 1901 at St. Robert, Quebec.* Georgianna was born on Dec. 3, 1878 in Bridgewater, CT. Her parents were George Lamothe and Merance Lefleur.  She had immigrated to Canada from the US in 1900.  They lived for a time in CT and then moved to Woonsocket, RI.

Their first born was Charles A. Jr. who was born on Feb. 14, 1902 in Putnam, CT.  Story has it that he was struck in the head with a baseball bat by his girlfriend who was subsequently deported to Canada.  He spent the remainder of his life at the RI Mental Health Center in Cranston. He died on Sept. 19, 1958.  He is buried in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham, MA. with his father.  His name is not on the gravestone.



Aurore was born Oct. 15, 1905 at 28 River St., Woonsocket, RI.  She married Joseph Menard on Feb. 25, 1923.  She had two children: Oscar and Ernest.  She died on August 7, 1997 in Providence, RI.


Noella was born on Dec. 2, 1906.  She married Helidor 'Leo' Lavallee. She had 2 daughters, Claribelle and Theresa. Helidor died in 1950.  She later married a Mr. Thibault. Noella died on Feb. 13, 1975 in Woonsocket, RI.  She is buried in the
Lavallee plot in the St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham, MA.

Alpherie and Flora
Alpherie was born Oct. 7, 1907 at 242 Vose St. in Woonsocket.  He married Flora Roy in November of 1935 at St. Louis Church in Woonsocket.  They had a daughter, Elaine and a son Roland.  After Flora died, he married Exilda Leblond.  He died on April 16, 1998 at the Friendly Home, Rhodes Ave., Woonsocket. He was 90 years old. He is buried in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery.

Marie Rose was born on April 4, 1909 at 242 Vose St. She married Joseph G. Lataille on Sept. 13, 1926.  Witnesses were Dominique Lataille and Joseph I. Menard.  They had a son, Omer J. and 2 daughters, Rena Mellor (1930-2005) and Ella Turcotte.  She died on July 7, 1991 at 972 Eddie Dowling Highway, North Smithfield, RI. at the age of 82.


 
Edgar was born on Oct. 3, 1912 at 20 Farm St., Blackstone, MA.  He married Rita Moison, who was born March 14, 1918 and died October 14, 1976.  They had 4 sons and 3 daughters. He died on Nov. 17, 1966 at 54 years of age. Edgar and his wife are buried in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery in Bellingham, MA.

 He worked as a mill hand, blacksmith, laborer and wood cutter.



His wife, Georgianna died June 2, 1948 at the age of 69.*

 He died on June 12, 1957 at l'Hospice St. Antoine, North Smithfield, RI and is buried in St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham, MA in the Lavallee plot.*




AURORE MARIE ROSE BLANCHE GIGUERE (1905-1997)

Aurore (Ora) Giguere

Aurore Marie Rose Blanche Giguere was the 4th child of Charles and Georgianna Lamothe. They were both 26 years old at the time. Aurore was born October 15, 1905 at 28 River St. in Woonsocket, RI.  Her godparents were: Jean-Baptiste Giguere and Délia Rousseau.*

In 1923 she worked at Nyanza Mills in Woonsocket.

At the age of 19, she married Joseph I. Menard on February 25, 1923 at St. Louis Church in Woonsocket, RI. by Father D. B. Brunelle. 






Behind Joseph is his father, Wilfred Menard and behind Aurore is her father, Charles Giguere.
 Joseph began work as a stationary engineer.

On July 29, 1924 Oscar Wilfred was born at 90 East St., Woonsocket, RI.

On January 13, 1926 Ernest Albert was born.

Aurore and Joseph were separated for many years. Joseph divorced her in 1937.  He remarried a couple of times but being a Catholic Aurore waited until Joseph died to remarry.  Joseph died December 13, 1960.


On January 28, 1961, Aurore married long-time companion Albert Magnan.*

Albert died on July 27, 1979 at the age of 85.

Aurore married Maurice Parent on May 29, 1988.

FRANCOIS GIGUERE (1839-1894)


Little is known of Francois Giguere.  He was born in Canada sometime around 1839.  His parents were Francois and Marie Salvas.

He married Mathilde Salvas on Feb. 8, 1864 in St. Michel, Yamaska, Quebec.*  She was born on Nov. 112, 1843 in St. Michel, Yamaska, Quebec. (He may have been married two other times, to Julie Nadeau and M Adelaide Foucher or Adelaide Brouillard in St-Aime de Massueville, Canada.)

Marie, who married Roch Guilbeault on June 7, 1887 in St. Marcel, Quebec.

Maxime Pierre, was born June. 10, 1876 in St. Marcel, Richelieu, Quebec.  He lived in Woonsocket, RI for 42 years. He married Melina Lozeau on August 12, 1895 in St. Marcel.* (Other records say April, 1893) She died sometime before he did. 
They had 5 sons; Dorila, born in St. Marcel on April 2, 1904.  He died February 18, 1948 in Woonsocket, RI. Aubert R., who was born June 12, 1905 in St. Marcel.  He died March 3, 1969 in N. Smithfield, RI; Wilbrod, Conrad A. and Leo B.: 5 daughters; Mrs. Albert Rouleau of Oakland, Mrs. George St. Germain of Detroit, Mrs. Leo Bell of Manchester, NH, Mrs. Herve Guertin of Wilton, NH and Mathilda of Woonsocket, who married Jacob Theroux.  (Mathilda was alive when her husband died in 1951.)
He worked at Woonsocket Spinning Co.  He died at Woonsocket Hospital on Feb. 23, 1960 at the age of 83.*

Jean-Baptiste, was born March 25, 1878 in St.  Marcel, Quebec.  He married Delia Rousseau on February 26, 1900 in St. Hugues, PQ. He died at age 46 on July 2, 1925 on Farm Street in Blackstone, MA.*

Joseph O. was born on June 24, 1871 in St. Marcel, Quebec.  He married Zenaide Picard on April 10, 1893 in St. Marcel, PQ and later married Anna Dextraze  with whom he had two sons; Deus O. and Oscar.  He had three daughters Mrs. Joseph Lizotte, Mrs. Louis Lacroix, and Mrs. Omer Bibeault. He also had step-daughters.  He was a retired carpenter.  He died July 22, 1945 at home on Farm Street, East Blackstone, MA.*

Charles was born on January 28, 1881.  Some records say he was born in Georgiaville, RI, others in St. Marcel, Richelieu, Canada.  He married Georgianna Lamothe. He was a blacksmith.  Charles and Georgianna had 3 sons; Charles A., Alpherie, and Edgar.  They had three daughters; Mrs. Aurore Menard, Mrs. Noella Lavallee and Mrs. Joseph Lataille.  He died on June 12, 1957 in N. Smithfield, RI.

Ernest of New York City who may also have lived in Detroit, Michigan.

Emella or Melia married Edmond Langevin and moved to Boston.

Emilia or Hemilia was born in 1873 at St Marcel, PQ.  She married Wilfred Lemieux.

Georgianna was born on February 5 or 6 in 1873 in St. Marcel, PQ.  She married Joseph Messier in April, 1893.  She died on December 28, 1964 in St.Louis, Quebec. She was 91 years old.

Mathilda was born Aug 20 1886 in St. Marcel.  She married Jacob Theroux on January 31, 1905 in St. Marcel de Richelieu, Quebec.  She eventually moved to Woonsocket, RI.  She died Dec 22 1928 in Woonsocket, RI.

Hermas J. was born on August 10, 1870 and died August 15, 1870 in St. Marcel, PQ.

Dorila who married Agnes Laplante on September 5, 1905 and at one time lived in Woonsocket.

Marie who married Roch Guilbeault on June 7, 1887.
Delima who married Desire Ferron on Februaary 1, 1887
Clautilde, born Apr 6 1868, died Dec 1, 1950.


Francois died on December 10, 1894 in St. Marcel, PQ. He was buried on December 13, 1894. (Another record has his death at June 24, 1916 in St. Aimee de Massueville, PQ.)

Mathilda lived on and in 1908 she immigrated to the US to live with her children there.  She died on June 19, 1923 at her son Maxime's home at 120 Daniels Street in Woonsocket, RI.* She is buried in Precious Blood Cemetery in Woonsocket, RI.

WILLIAM J. BERUBE (1885-1938)


William Joseph Berube was born into a large family in Dalhousie, PQ, Canada on June 22, 1885.
 
His parents were Alfred Berube and Emilie (Farland).

They immigrated to the US in the 1890's and found their way to Fall River, MA where in 1900 William was living with his parents and 9 siblings. By 1905 he was living in Woonsocket, RI where he would spend the rest of his life.

William, played for Amreican Ringer.





On May 12, 1913, he married Marie Cormier in Woonsocket, RI.


Before they were married he lived at 75 Kendrick Ave. and she at 76 Chester St. in Woonsocket.

William became a citizen of the US on May 10. 1919.*  He and his young family were living at 56 Social St. at the time.

Lionel, born April 17, 1914.  Lionel married Therese Menard. She was born Sep 10 1920.

When William was married he listed his occupation as Teamster.  In 1900 he was a cotton weaver and second hand in the finishing depatment at Lafayette Worsted Company. He also worked delivering beer.

He died on January 23, 1938 in Woonsocket, RI at 53 years old  He had suffered from gallbladder problems for 6 months.  His funeral Mass was celebrated at St; Joseph's Church and he was buried at Precious Blood cemetery.
